  1. Cao-xi Hui-neng (638-713):
    *From the first Indian lineage master Mahakasyapa, Hui-neng belongs to the thirty-third generation of the Chan lineage.
    *From the first Chinese lineage master Bodhidharma, Hui-neng belongs to the sixth generation of the Chan lineage.
  2. De-qing Yan-che (Xu-yun) (1840-1959):
    *From the sixth Chinese lineage master Hui-neng, Xu-yun belongs to the fifty-ninth generation of the Chan lineage.
    *From the founder of Linji School Master Lin-ji Yi-xuan, Xu-yun belongs to the fifty-fourth generation of the Linji School.
  3. Ling-yuan Hong-miao (1902-1988):
    * From the sixth Chinese lineage master Hui-neng, Ling-yuan belongs to the sixty-first generation of the Chan lineage.
    * From the founder of Linji School Master Lin-ji Yi-xuan, Ling-yuan belongs to the fifty-sixth generation of the Linji School.
  4. Dong-chu Deng-lang (1908-1977):
    * From the sixth Chinese lineage master Hui-neng, Dong-chu belongs to the fifty-sixth generation of the Chan lineage.
    * From the founder of Caodong School Master Dong-shan Liang-jie, Dong-chu belongs to the fifty-first generation of the Caodong School.
  5. Hui-kong Sheng-yen (1930-2009 ):
    * From the founder of Linji School Master Lin-ji Yi-xuan, Sheng-yen belongs to the fifty-seventh generation of the Linji School.
    * From the founder of Caodong School Master Dong-shan Liang-jie, Sheng-yen belongs to the fifty-second generation of the Caodong School.
    * Hui-kong Sheng-yen is the first generation of the Dharma Drum Mountain line of the Linji School and the Caodong School in Taiwan and North America.
